20:30 Semjons Haņins with khaphone
For his new performance Semyon Khanin has created an instrument called the ‘khaphone’. This device is created as an extension of the body with percussions that sound in the rhythm of the text reading. The mixture of hope and sadness sounds in the texts and finds rhymes in the disharmonious and at the same time rhythmic sound of the khaphone.

10:30 Waterway. A performance for children
The story – how a cloud forms from a snowball, rain falls from a cloud, puddles form, puddles flow into rivers, rivers go to the sea. Goldfish and jellyfish live in the sea. The story is told almost without words, only by emphasizing natural phenomena – clouds, rain, rivers, sea – by repeating them several times. As well as emphasizing what is big and small.
The type of game is calm, unhurried, attentive, adapted to children’s perception. So that there is no feeling of fear and everything can be tracked.

DSilton’s music consists of energetic arrangements in microtonal tunings and highly variable rhythms. This enharmonic, microtonal journey is performed on special instruments – a newly developed 31-tone keyboard, called the ‘claviton’, a drum kit and a new system of eight-string electric guitars with an octave division of 31 tones.

21:00 Savādi cilvēki stāv ļoti savādi. A show for children and others
Concert performance Savādi cilvēki stāv ļoti savādi is based on a newly created cycle of nine songs by Platon Buravitskis with lyrics by Daniils Harms from a recently published Latvian collection of poems for children in the style of Kārlis Vērdiņš. The songs are performed by baritone Armands Siliņš with live accompaniment by Buravitskis’ analog synthesizer, accompanied by 16mm film, slide and overhead projector analog projections, as well as the projectors and projectionists themselves. The synthesis of sound, light and images, object and body movements draws the audience into an associative, strange adventure in the spirit of Harms, introducing the world of analog synthesizers and film projections in an engaging, playful way and combining elements of contemporary music and visual art, theater and experimental cinema.

“Complete happiness is the denial of pain, the denial of all pain, even if it were only the fear of pain. Happiness and death have merged together in the limitlessness of violence. Violence has no boundaries,” she says. And how could it be otherwise, when she has experienced how her native castle is taken and burned, her sister is mocked and her family is killed. When she has seen how her entire partisan group is shot and a very young comrade dies before her eyes, flying over a crane’s nest. She has fought on the Belarusian front and made love at the Midsummer offering in the Kaliningrad region. She has ended up on Godard’s film set and appeared in a dream to Buñuel. She has ended up on Ulda’s boat without the intention of throwing herself into the Daugava. In the name of love, she was ready to take revenge and kill, commit suicide and fight against the aesthetic stereotypes of bourgeois Latvia. Because “Love is a fight!”, as the epigraph under Mukhina’s sculptures of a worker and a collective farmer states. An event in which the audience’s love for Latvia will reach unprecedented heights.

Music programming and the various timbres of the organ. Improvisation, sound searches and the elusiveness of the moment. The organ as a huge primordial computer and writing code as a modern musical instrument to create both emotional impulses and logical schemes in sounds. Meditative shades of one sound, trance-like ostinato motifs, unexpected accents and uniqueness. Live coding or real-time programming is a practice where sound/video is created in real time by writing code. Programming platforms are very diverse, but the essence is the same – the creator of electronic music creates various musical structures by improvising with algorithmic units. At the concert, Alise will work in the SuperCollider software, the written program will also be visible to the audience.

Compositions For the Pool is an immersive sound experience that offers an unusual way to experience the process of swimming, while exploring how we perceive space, time and a sense of community through sound. The work is best enjoyed with underwater audio headphones while swimming. This composition was created when two Australian artists spent a whole month in a public swimming pool in their hometown – swimming every day, chatting with visitors and recording the various sounds of the pool. Then, in collaboration with a symphony orchestra formed by local volunteers, the melodies found in the soundscapes were transformed into an experimental composition – a symphonic monument to a place they loved so much in their childhood.

The artist created a multi-channel installation in the space, where, with the help of speakers, using the basic units of sound synthesis – pure tones, he created a patterned “cloud” in the air. Guests were invited, guided by their own ears, to feel and understand the nature and structure of this audio experiment. It is precisely through the listener’s movement in the space that the “cloud” reveals its forms and marks the points where the encounter of individual speaker waves creates deep rumbles or, on the contrary, silence.
