Mind the Gap (creative Europe + KM) 25-26-(27)

A European Project Spotlighting Women Composers
Mind the Gap is an ambitious and collaborative European initiative that seeks to address gender inequality in the music world by bringing long-overdue attention to the work of women composers. Spearheaded by a network of cultural partners across Latvia, Portugal, Hungary, and France, the project champions diversity and gender equity within the contemporary music scene.

At its core, Mind the Gap features new commissions from women composers in the participating countries, following the imaginative and collaborative principle of the “Musical Exquisite Corpse.” This creative process fosters unique, interconnected works that embody a shared European artistic spirit.

More than a celebration of female talent, Mind the Gap also serves as a platform for raising collective awareness. It encourages reflection and dialogue among programmers, educators, media professionals, and cultural institutions — challenging established practices and advocating for change. Professional musicians and teachers play an active role, helping to drive this transformation forward.
By forging connections across borders, the project promotes the transnational exchange of ideas and the wider circulation of new works, paving the way for greater visibility and recognition of women in music across Europe.

Mind the Gap is more than a showcase, it’s a call to action. A campaign for a more inclusive, equitable, and creatively vibrant musical landscape that truly reflects the voices of today’s women composers.

Join us to listen, to learn, and to transform the artistic landscape.
